Fun Techtivities in May!

Summer holidays will soon arrive. How best to prepare yourself for the holidays than to see what techtivities you can explore with your family and friends? 😉

Starting with some #TechNews, as Singaporeans, we are sure to know about this king of fruits - durian!

Love or hate the spiky king of fruits, Singapore consumes large amounts of durian, though its husk is typically discarded 🗑️. How should we reduce such waste? Professor William Chen and his team created bandages 🩹from discarded husks by extracting cellulose from them and processing the extract. Are such bandages feasible for the market? Though the team has only created proofs-of-concepts so far, they're estimated to be cost-effective 💰, sustainable ♻️, and cheaper 💵 than conventional hydrogel alternatives! Read more about these durian-derived bandages here!

Now that we’re all set, keep scrolling on to discover techtivities that you and your family can indulge in this month! ✨

To wrap up our #TechtivitiesOfTheMonth, here is a fun #TechFact!

Did you know that computers operate on binary codes? Computer software is written using only 0’s and 1’s. With infinite combinations of 0 and 1, new software can be written all the time! (Source)

If you haven’t seen our previous techtivity recommendations, check out our April #TechtivitiesOfTheMonth, which includes more cool tech-related activities you can do with friends and family!
