Coding Lab wins Tokyo Bay eSG award - Minecraft Cup 2023

We are thrilled to announce that the Coding Lab Pro Builders team has been awarded the Tokyo Bay eSG Award -  the ONLY Team from the National Japan Minecraft Cup 2023 to be accorded this honour!

Organised by the Tokyo metropolitan government, the Tokyo Bay eSG award selects one work from the over 500 submissions to the Minecraft Cup 2023 that matches the city image that the Tokyo Bay eSG Project aims to create (using cutting-edge technology, creating a space for people surrounded by lush greenery and water).

  • The Tokyo Bay eSG Project is an ambitious project in an unpopulated part of Tokyo Bay aims to build a high-tech, sustainable city-within-a-city on reclaimed land.

"Manabu Miyasaka, a deputy governor for Japan’s capital, is embarking on an ambitious project to build a futuristic city by creating more land where there’s currently water. Called the Tokyo Bay eSG Project, the goal is to boost international competitiveness by creating a sustainable city and embracing cutting-edge digital technologies."

The Tokyo Bay eSg project has been featured on the World Economic Forum and Bloomberg.

The team went to Tokyo, Japan for the exclusive prize presentation ceremony at the Tokyo National Science Museum. Our students were honoured to receive their awards directly from the Tokyo Government Office Bureau Director, and notably, our Coding Lab students, Yuk Hang and Jairus, delivered a compelling speech on behalf of the team that left a lasting impression on everyone present. It was a truly unforgettable experience, filled with pride and accomplishment! 👏🏻

So proud of our students, Jairus (left) and Yuk Hang (right) for presenting on behalf of the team! Our amazing coders can code as well as communicate their ideas well! 😉

Not only that, our winning students also participated in a workshop by Styly, who do bigscale digital animations such as that you see in TeamLab exhibitions globally, to convert their Minecraft Word into 3D images using AR and VR! Truly an amazing opportunity! Their project will be displayed at the international event "SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024" which will be held in May 2024.

Adding on to the highlight of the trip, our students participated in an exciting Minecraft Masters Hackathon at Coding Lab Japan, where they further developed their innovative ideas. And that's not all – exclusively for our #CodingLabStudents, we were also given an office tour at Microsoft Japan! 🤩

The team had a lot of fun creating the AR/VR/XR Minecraft world, and seeing their project ‘in person’!

While we have won the annual Minecraft Cup multiple times, this is the first time after Covid-19 that we could take a team trip. Aside from the official award ceremony, we immersed ourselves in the rich culture, history, and beauty of Tokyo during this time! We visited various places, such as the newly opened TeamLab Borderless Tokyo, the Tokyo Science Centre, the Harry Potter Warner Bros Tour and the Cup Noodle Museum.

Once again, congratulations to our students for the Tokyo Bay eSG award! It was great to share these memorable moments with our fellow students and parents, creating bonds and memories that will last a lifetime.
