The App Inventor Summit 2024 organised by MIT is back for the 5th time running – and the opportunity to work with your friends on an advanced app under a specialised and rigorous MIT-inspired curriculum is here once again!
This summit is an international competition that encourages young mobile app developers and coders across the globe to put forth their most advanced ideas, bring it into reality with the help of the App Inventor Platform, and present their app in a formal research conference environment, making waves of change all over the world.

Coding Lab invites all students aged 10-18 who have completed App Inventor 1 and 2 to join us on our super-charged sessions to challenge their limits on the endless possibilities and features that App Inventor provides to create smooth and seamless apps of global impact.
In fact, our student teams in 2019 won 2nd Prize in the Beginner Category and Advanced Category for their hackathon projects, and even clinched the Best Poster Award (2nd Prize) as well!

Selected Participants will get to fly to MIT to present at the AI and Education Summit (July 24-26, 2024)
Summit Package (including Conference admission fees, teacher’s Training fees whilst at MIT etc) will be advised at a later date once the participants have been selected.
Cost of Airfare, Accomodation and meals at the Summit to be borne directly by participants.
Research, Create and Present your project on a global stage (If selected, you will be conducting a Poster Presentation at Boston, MIT!)

30 hours (7 weekly sessions x 2 hours + 4 x 4 hours camp sessions)
Weekly sessions: 1700 - 1900 (Every Tuesday or Friday)
Camp sessions: 1300 - 1700 (from June 18 to 21)

Age 10 - 18 years old as of August 1, 2024
For ages 10 to 12 years old (as of 1 August 2024): Will need to complete P202 App Inventor 2 (Please hyperlink the courses)
For ages 13 years old and above (as of 1 August 2024): Preferably completed P202 App Inventor 2. If the student has not completed these modules before, they can do some self-study on how to use the App Inventor platform prior to the camp.
Groupings will be based on the student's age and strengths to foster group synergy. The number of group members per team will be advised at a later date.

We require our students to meet certain prerequisites in coding experience based on our Coding Lab curriculum. As such, we will only accept Coding Lab students.

The timeline is as follows:
Mid May – Mid Jul 2024: Preparation for Summit
24 - 26 July 2024: Summit to be held in Boston, USA

Students must be 10 - 18 years old as of August 1, 2024.
For Students aged 10-12 (YOB 2012-2014):
Must have completed P202 App Inventor 2
For Students aged 13-18 (YOB 2006-2011):
Preferably completed P202 App Inventor 2.
Otherwise, students are highly encouraged to familiarise themselves with the App Inventor Interface before joining the course. (Google Account is required for sign-in)
If your child is not currently enrolled in any classes with Coding Lab, he/she can take our placement test for App Inventor to be considered for the competition.
Groupings will be based on the student's age and strengths to foster group synergy. The number of group members per team will be advised at a later date.

Yes, of course they can! Our training camp is specially designed such that any student of varying exposure to App Inventor functionalities and research experience can participate. There will be something new for everyone to learn.

Students can register their interest first with Coding Lab and the teaching team will help to assist with the groupings of the students based on their age and skill sets (e.g. presentation, designing and coding).

The app submitted for Technovation will be automatically entered into the MIT App Inventor summit. There will be some mentorship and production sessions for the poster presentation, but the dates will be advised at a later stage.

Summit Package (including Conference Admission fees, teacher’s Training fees at the summit) etc will be advised at a later date once the participants have been selected. This is subject to the total number of qualifying participants.
