#CodingLabStudents: Tan Yap, 12, HCIC 2024 Platinum Winner
Tan Yap’s coding journey began when she was just in preschool, sparked by a robotics class that piqued her curiosity. Since then, her passion for coding has grown immensely, from Scratch to Python, and now exploring languages like JavaScript and C++. She has even competed in the prestigious Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC) 2024 and won the Platinum award in her first-ever competition, only awarded to the top 1.5% of participants — an achievement that speaks volumes about her dedication and drive!

#CodingLabStudents: Aiden Breva, 12, HCIC 2024 Silver Winner, NJCO Bronze Winner
Aiden’s coding journey began at a young age and has led him to remarkable achievements, including winning a Silver award at the Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC) 2024, as well as a Bronze award at the National Junior Cybersecurity Olympiad (NJCO), ranking high despite competing against many other older participants in secondary school level and above!

Today, we are introducing Prabir, an aspiring 13-year-old coder who clinched the Top Platinum Award for the Hwa Chong Info-Communications Challenge (HCIC) 2023, which is only awarded to the top 1.5% of the participants!

#CodingLabStudents: Winston Ang, 13, St. Andrew’s Secondary School
Today, we are introducing Winston, an aspiring 13-year-old coder who kickstarted his coding journey with us and got into St. Andrew’s Secondary School via DSA with coding, right here at Coding Lab!
Winston started coding at the tender age of 7. The passage of time stands as a testament to his unwavering determination and perseverance throughout the years. It is with great pride that we celebrate his remarkable achievements, as his consistent effort culminated in a well-deserved Distinction and Judges’ Choice (Most Creative) Award in the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2022!

#CodingLabStudents: Lucas Tan, 13, St. Joseph’s Institution
At Coding Lab, we are passionate about empowering our students to reach new heights and commemorating the remarkable achievements of our students. Introducing our #CodingLabStudent of the month, Lucas Tan, 13, who is currently attending St. Joseph’s Institution after successfully gaining an offer through DSA via coding!
Lucas also has gained various coding achievements, such as the Silver Award in the Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC) 2023 and the Judge’s Choice Award in the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2022.

#CodingLabStudents: David Xu, 10, Catholic High School (Primary)
It is never too early to start coding — it is an essential life skill that can be picked up with the proper resources and guidance!
Meet David, a young and budding coder currently 10 years old in 2024, who loves exploring what he can do and create with coding! Despite being one of the youngest participants in the International Coding Showcase 2022 at 7 years old, David’s solid foundation in coding propelled him to achieve remarkable feats, earning a Distinction and Judges’ Choice (Best Presentation) Award!

#CodingLabStudents: Jacob Xu, 13, NUS High School, HCIC 2023 Gold Award Winner
Meet Jacob, a diligent 13-year-old coder who won the Gold Award in the Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC 2023), achieved a Distinction and Judges’ Choice (Best Presentation) Award at the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2022, and is currently attending NUS High School, which he got into via DSA!
Earlier in February 2024, Jacob’s team - Team Coding Lab Urban Coders (Ages 13 to 18) -comprising students from Singapore and Japan beat more than 500 teams (and 10,000 participants) to snag the Best Programming Award in the final competition! Jacob was selected to represent his team and share about their project at the final competition, and even had the chance to tour the Microsoft Japan HQ in Shinagawa, Tokyo. 🤩

Minecraft Cup 2023 (Ages 13-18) - Grand Prize (1st Place) and Best Programming Award
For 2023, our students from Coding Lab Singapore and Japan worked together to create Eco Village. This village uses the latest technologies and clean energy, such as Gravity Batteries and solar farms, and green buildings and architecture, to create a sustainable, peaceful city. Their project won them the Grand Prize (1st Place)!
Minecraft Cup 2023 (Ages 10-12) - Excellence Award (2nd Place) and the Tokyo Bay eSG Award
For 2023, our students from Coding Lab Singapore and Japan worked together to create The Future Earth, a sustainable society promoting self-sufficiency. Their project won them the Excellence Award (2nd Place) as well as the Special Award: Tokyo Bay eSG Award, which means the team will be presenting their project at Sushi Tech Tokyo 2024!
Minecraft Cup 2023 (Ages 7-9) - Inspirational Award
For 2023, our students from Coding Lab Singapore and Japan worked together to create a city called SkyCity, a place to study and research SDGs at the sustainable University and city. Their project won them the Inspirational Award!
Minecraft Cup 2022 (Ages 7-9)
For 2022, our students from Coding Lab Singapore and Japan worked together to create a city called CodeTropolis District A. They focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15 and made a sustainable city connected to nature. Their project was so impressive that they were even selected for the Tokyo Bay eSG project, where they presented their project to the Governor of Tokyo! Watch their beautiful city here.
Minecraft Cup 2022 (Ages 13-18)
Our ages 13-18 team, with students from Singapore and Japan, created a city called CodeTropolis Nature. With a focus on United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15, they made a city that is rich with biodiversity and green architecture that blends the urban landscape seamlessly into the surrounding wetlands refuge, and nature preserves. Their amazing Minecraft World clinched them the Sustainable City Development Award, making them one of the 4 teams to receive an award! View their project here.
Minecraft Cup 2022 (Ages 10-12)
Comprising of students from Coding Lab Singapore and Japan, students crossed borders and worked together to create a city called CodeTropolis Sea. They focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 and built an undersea sanctuary for all animals on Earth. Watch their amazing project here!
Minecraft Cup 2021 - Creativity Award
Congratulations to our students at Coding Lab Japan who attained the Creativity Award in this year’s Microsoft National Minecraft Cup in Tokyo, Japan! Their Minecraft World called New CodeTropolis let them receive one of the 14 awards given to the top teams, emerging as winners out of more than 3000 entries! Watch their winning entry here.

Congratulations to our students for achieving the Best Coding Award at the Microsoft National Minecraft Cup 2019 in Tokyo, Japan!Their winning project CodeTropolis, was selected out of more than 130 participating entries. Watch their winning entry here!

Coding Lab Student Feature: Sarah Go, 17, Hwa Chong International
Meet Sarah, our talented young coder. She's gotten an honourable mention at the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI), volunteered with the community, and clinched a prestigious scholarship to study Computer Engineering in the USA.
Coding Lab Student Feature: Josephine, 14, Raffles Girls' School
Meet our talented student, Josephine, 14. A member of her school's Infocomm club, she started with Coding Lab in 2017, where she was first introduced to Python programming. She has since progressed upward and can now count programming in C++ as another skill under her belt.
Coding Lab Student Feature: Surya, 14, Raffles Institution
Surya Nayar, 14, is no ordinary student. At his young age, he can count Python and C++ programming skills under his belt. This savvy student wrote his own stock rating algorithm after attending a Masterclass on Data Analytics with us.
